Acquisitions/Serials Librarian

Sample Law Library is seeking an experienced, service-oriented individual to serve as Acquisitions/Serials Librarian at a law school that prides itself on cross-disciplinary studies.

 

Responsibilities: Responsible for acquisition and receipt of library materials in all formats, including oversight of ordering, receiving, payment, serials check-in and binding. Initiate and maintain relationships with publishers and vendors; monitor vendor performance; coordinate the purchase, licensing and control of all electronic materials, including the following: review and negotiate licensing agreements, sometimes in collaboration with other staff, resolve any initial access questions and problems, establish electronic resources management database using Microsoft Access; place faculty rush orders using university credit card; assist with evaluation and selection of vendor to supply serials holdings data; maintain relevant procedures; monitor expenditure of materials budget funds, prepare reports; participate in collection development activities; supervise 5 FTE; act as acquisitions liaison with law school departments, other libraries, library patrons, consortia. Reports to Associate Director for Technical Services.

 

Qualifications:  

 

Required: M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent experience; minimum of three years of library experience or equivalent; demonstrated supervisory ability;  knowledge of U.S. and foreign publishing industry; experience with automated library systems; strong service orientation; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to work both independently and in a team/collaborative environment.

 

Preferred: Experience working  with serials; working knowledge of western European languages; law or academic library experience or familiarity with legal materials; working knowledge of AACR2 and MARC

formats; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
