GPLLA 2026 Annual Institute: The State of Law Librarianship Today

We are so excited for our upcoming Institute on March 20. This year’s Institute is graciously being hosted at Reed Smith’s office in Center City. After several years of Institute’s looking at the universe of legal information more broadly, we are turning an introspective lens on the profession of law librarianship. Panel discussions will cover topics like managing library budgets in an era of uncertainty; trends and developments around salaries, credentials, and career prospects; and how roles, responsibilities, and titles are changing. Thanks to Thomson Reuters Information Management Consultant Team for their support.

Registration is open until March 15 and includes lunch and a post-institute happy hour with food and drinks at nearby Victory Brewing from 5:30 – 7:00! Thanks to LexisNexis for making the happy hour possible!

A Look at GPLLA History: Holiday Parties

It was great to see everyone who was able to make it to GPLLA’s Holiday Party at Rosy’s Taco Bar in January. Which leads me to ask, where were you on December 10, 2014 (a mere twelve years ago)?

Perhaps you attended GPLLA’s 2014 Holiday Party hosted at DiBruno Brothers.

From the pictures and executive board reports ($300 budgeted for beverages; up from $260 the year before!) it looks like a great time!

Social Responsibilities Committee Update

The Social Responsibility Committee’s recently updated free legal research guide,Pennsylvania Legal Research 101. The guide is available as a website or a downloadable PDF

Cover page for Pennsylvania Legal Research 101: About the Law & How to Find It

Originally launched by the SRC in 2022, Pennsylvania Legal Research 101 aims to support the legal information needs of the Greater Philadelphia community. It is our hope that this guide makes a small contribution to the greater Access to Justice movement by increasing Pennsylvanians’ access to–and understanding of–legal information. The guide was thoroughly reviewed by SRC members in 2025 with an eye towards ensuring that information is up-to-date and links to external resources continue to function as intended. We urge all GPLLA members to use and share this resource.

A strong contingent of GPLLA members at the SRC's Books Through Bars event.

On February 21, GPLLA’s Social Responsibilities Committee organized a volunteer session at Books Through Bars Philadelphia. GPLLA members and their guests opened letters from individuals in prison in Pennsylvania and beyond, selected books to fulfill their requests, and invoiced book orders for shipping. They met up afterwards at a nearby café to enjoy light refreshments. Keep an eye out for the next volunteer event if you are interested in participating!
